New Backup System For Web Hosting and Reseller Web Hosting Customers
We’re currently trialing a new backup system for all Web Hosting and Reseller Web Hosting customers. In the past users who wanted to restore accounts had to contact the support team for this to be completed. Now users can restore accounts from the backup server directly from cPanel.
With the addition of the new system, we are also changing the way we collect backups. With the old system, we took a SnapShot of your account and stored it offsite in a .tar.gz file. This meant everytime the backup system run it would backup the whole account. Now we will change to daily backups but these will be incremental backups.
Incremental backups work by just backing up the files that have changed each day. You can then restore your account back the specific day the backup was taken. We will store 5 days worth of backups for each user.
To restore an account login to the cPanel of the account you want to restore and click the “Full Account Backup” link, on the next page just click “Restore” The server will then connect to the backup server and pull the selected backup from the server then, restore it. It’s also possible to restore individual files by using the “File Manager” link.
You can also restore individual backups instead of having to restore the whole account. You can currently restore;
Reseller users can limit the access to this system by using the feature manager in WHM. You can choose to charge your users extra for this service by doing this. By default, the new system is available to every account on the server. Please report any bugs to the support team.
